Erin

Accredited Mental Health Social Worker

Erin (they/ them) is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (BSW, MCSW) who works, lives and practices on Gadigal land. Erin’s a white able-bodied person with a queer and trans lived experience. Erin has over twelve years of professional social work experience working alongside people from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences.

Erin brings a depth of understanding of the ways in which people’s lives are impacted by their context and experiences. Erin aims to support people to get curious about life to make space to contextualise problems, work on goals and figure out strategies to navigate, cope with and heal from trauma and distress. Erin’s interested in the stories people hold about themselves and the world and making space for these non-judgementally, with curiosity and care.

Erin’s work is underpinned by an ethic of social justice and an appreciation of intersectional oppression and the pursuit of dignity and authenticity. They believe people are the experts on their lives and that counselling simply makes room for people to tap into the wisdom they’ve spent a lifetime nurturing already. Erin’s practice is influenced by narrative therapy and systemic ideas and moves away from individualising narratives of ‘problems.’ Erin prefers to see these as wider issues that are shaped by the contexts of people’s lives and the increasingly unjust ways society is set up.

Erin likes to think that their background in the messiness of community work has gifted them a capacity for fun and authenticity too, and that this sense of rapport, curiosity and connection is something that they bring into the room. Erin’s believes that the relationship developed between client and counsellor is where healing starts to happen.
